Christopher loves to sing...This is Chris singing Jingle Bells and his part seems to be the "Heh!" after "one horse open sleigh" As you can see, is really gets into it. He also feels that the proper accompaniment to Jingle Bells is to drum it. Quite a melody!

Wacky Hat Flash Mob
Most of you know of our eccentric hobby, geocaching. For those that do not, geocaching is a worldwide treasure hunt using GPS coordinates. We went to our second caching event a World Wide Flash Mob. A WWFM is when cachers around the world meet at a specific time in multiple locations worldwide. Our had a "Wachy Hat" theme. At 4:00pm CST some 30 people who were just strolling around a park whip out crazy hats and formed up. We logged in, took a picture, got snacks, danced to the chicken song and fifteen minutes later the mob disbursed. We caused quite a stir in Murphysboro. A cop even stopped by to see what was going on! Those crazy cachers! It was lots of fun and can't wait until next year.

First Pics of Our New Baby

We had our first doctors appointment today. The baby was quiet, which is uncharacteristic for a Banks, so Dr. Mulch had to do an ultrasound just to make sure that the baby had a heartbeat. It was beating normally in the 170's. Everything looks great. They pushed back the due date another week. We are now at 9 weeks and the baby is due on February 12th. May have a Valentine's baby! We were ecstatic to get to see the baby so soon. Christopher is hugging mommy's belly and saying "Hi baby." It's so cute!

Aunt Tracy & Uncle Jeff took us to Christopher's first trip to Chuckie Cheese's. Chris had a ball. He was not too sure of Chuckie, himself. He came out and walked around and Chris clung to daddy like a monkey. He did "give him five" though. Brian, mommy and daddy played games to win over 500 tickets so Chris could get a good prize. He got some play Black & Decker tools for his workbench at home.

Ouch
Christopher was helping daddy fill his kiddie pool when a bumblebee stung him around both eyes. Mommy and daddy came to the rescue and daddy put some baking soda paste to get the poison out. What a traumatic experience for all involved. He is doing much better today and there was no adverse reactions.

Whoa We Can't Believe It

Bobbie surprised Shawn on Saturday morning at the Ft de Chartres Encampment with the news that she and our "two" children were on the way to see him! We are pregnant, again!!! We are both in a state of shock. It was a surprise but not unwelcome. We were beginning to talk about having another child. I guess God thought we were ready! When asked, Christopher nods that he wants to be a big brother. All are very excited.

Inland Hurricane
WOW! We had the mother of all storms here on May 8th at about 1:30pm. Seven counties were declared disaster areas by the governor. Storm did city wide damage, with some of the worst in our neighborhood. They are unofficially calling it an "inland hurricane" because the winds were sustaining at over 100 mph! We estimate over $20,000 worth of damage in our home. Our deck was destroyed, basement flooded, and roof damaged by the winds and golf ball sized hail. Linda's firebird was also damaged.
Chris was at daycare at the time and they rode the storm out singing songs in the bathroom. They were great with the kids and kept them calm. Shawn was down in the lower level of the high school trying to keep the kids calm while trees were falling down out side. Bobbie was at Lick Creek which didn't sustain any damage but it did take her quite a while to find a route home. It took Shawn thirty minutes to get home to check on his mother who had made it to the basement before the trees started falling.
We were without power for 7 days and telephone was out for 12 and we still don't have satellite back. Shawn's school was canceled for an entire week. We got a generator which got the sump pump running again and kept one fridge and the deep freeze going. Unfortunately showers were ice cold. Shawn, always the boy scout, got out his camping stove and we were able to eat well. Pancakes, bacon, eggs and coffee for breakfast.
A special thank you goes out to Cecil and Mike McClain, who came up from Arkansas to help us cut down trees and limbs. Insurance didn't pick up much of the tree trimming so it was a huge help!!!
It was a truly unique experience. Candles and flashlights, the hum of the generator outside, and turning to radio for information about what was going on. Our local radio station is owned by a parent company. They broadcast storm coverage simultaneously on all their stations for several days. Many people called in and told their stories, gave advice and asked questions. The communities came together and helped each other out. There was a tinge of remorse as the power did start coming back on and life went back to normal. Don't get me wrong, there was euphoria at the first hot shower but, the sense of community and neighborly compassion was something great to see again. It stirs memories of a day when you could leave your doors unlocked at night... Of course the storm-imposed curfew may have had something to with my sense of security :-)
